From the AI Lab: Peer Review

Peer review at the pace of research: AI Peer Review has academic papers assessed by an AI – quickly, transparently and at a fair price.

At the advento AI Lab, we develop experimental projects centred on the practical application of AI. One of these is AI Peer Review, a new publication platform for the economic and social sciences. Submissions are currently accepted in the fields of economics, sociology and political science.

Traditional peer review often takes months and costs several thousand dollars for open-access publications. Preprint servers are fast and inexpensive, but they do not provide any human qualified peer review. AI Peer Review deliberately positions itself somewhere in between. An AI analyses the manuscript against standardised criteria such as originality, methodological rigour and relevance, drawing additionally on specialist databases. The response includes:

  • an overall rating as a percentage
  • a critical assessment
  • specific recommendations, often within a matter of hours

The first review is free of charge.

The decision on publication always rests with the authors, and the copyright remains with the submitter. Published works appear under a Creative Commons licence. The AI provides an indication of quality, not a judgement on what may be published.

AI Peer Review will launch in 2026 and, from the outset, will collect real-world data on how reliably automated reviews work. Anyone wishing to find out more about the platform or submit their own paper can find further information directly on the AI Peer Review website: https://aipeerreview.net.
